Colorado’s Front Range Airport Boasts Tallest Control Tower

by Mr. Flight on June 21st, 2005

Expected to be operational by August 1, Front Range Airport in Colorado will soon have a new… and very tall control tower. At over 200 feet the control tower will be the tallest of any general aviation airport.

The $5.7 million control tower should entice larger jet aircraft into the airport which do not currently operate there due to insurance regulations. County officials hope the ability of larger jet aircraft to operate at the airport will help drive economic development.

The new tower lets controllers see the entire airport. Future airport expansion calls for lengthening the two existing runways as well as adding a third runway.
