Mooney Safety Record Leads to Reduced Insurance Costs
Mooney reported today on the established safety record of Mooney airplanes. All aircraft insurance premiums are based upon the combination of the airplane’s safety record and pilot experience. However, the established safety record of Mooney airplanes contributes to significant savings for insurance. Experience has shown that the owner of a 2004 Mooney Ovation2 DX can save an average of up to 70 percent versus a competitive airplane with a similar hull value.
The superior safety innovations available in every Mooney GX airplane include such features as the AMSAFE Aviation Inflatable Restraints (AAIR) and the Garmin G1000 avionics panel. Handcrafted structural features also contribute to the safety of every Mooney airplane.
“When assessing Mooney’s safety features, chief among them are its strength and ruggedness featuring the one-piece wing spar and the steel-frame rollcage around the cabin. The reputation for a quality built airframe and the skill of the factory workforce are two reasons that Mooney’s reputation for safety is widely known through the industry. Mooney airplanes are a benchmark for speed, efficiency and safety. Now, owners are finding another reason to love their Mooneys: lower insurance premiums,” said Trey Hughes, director of Mooney Aircraft Pilots Association.
Falcon Insurance Agency of Austin, Texas works closely with Mooney owners to create custom policies for their new airplanes. “The combination of safety features make Mooneys very desirable airplanes to own and insure,” said John Allen of Falcon Insurance. “You can expect a better insurance policy due to the stellar Mooney safety record.”
Mooney is a leader when it comes to innovations in airplane safety: the handcrafted airplanes have featured a steel rollcage for more than 50 years. The rollcage provides enhanced structural integrity and enables insurance companies to offer Mooney owners significantly reduced premiums. Another safety addition is the AMSAFE restraint system found in both pilot and copilot seats of all Mooney Bravo and Ovation models. The groundbreaking Mooney version of the AAIR consists of a three-point restraint system that, when needed, deploys away from the seat occupant.
Other safety combinations in the GX models include the Garmin G1000 avionics panel and the TKS de-icing system. The Garmin G1000 avionics provide enhanced situational awareness for the pilot and greatly improves the margin of safety for flight in instrument conditions. The TKS de-icing system is an important point of sale for many pilots as the Mooney is the only aircraft in its class certified for flight into known icing.
Initial and ongoing flight training is also a determining factor in the structure of insurance premiums. The Mooney flight-training course, which has received FAA recognition, is included with every new Mooney airplane sale. “Having a highly insurable airplane is only half of the equation,” said Allen. “Mooney’s superior flight training course makes certain the pilots are equally insurable.”
