CubCrafters Introduces Top Cub
TOP CUB makes its first appearance at OSHKOSH since receiving its FAR part 23 type certification in December of 2004. TOP CUB is joined at the CubCrafters company display by its 100 hp sibling, SPORT CUB, which makes its worldwide debut this week on the same stage.
Company founder and CEO Jim Richmond commented, “With TOP CUB, we have brought 25 years of experience to bear on a new, certified, ready to fly airplane that offers a level of performance and capability previously unavailable. We have been rebuilding Super Cubs for 25 years, so we understand completely the parts and performance limitations of that airplane that needed improving, and we have achieved our design goals in the new TOP CUB”. Standard features include an empty weight of 1,200 lbs, a useful load of 1,100 lbs, and 205 lbs of available cargo capacity behind the rear seat, in the extended baggage area, and in the upper storage compartment. Unique to TOP CUB are 11 fuselage-welded interior tie-down points for ultimate cargo carrying flexibility. TOP CUB also features 26G pilot and 21G co-pilot restraint systems, adjustable front and rear seats, 54 gallon capacity fuel system and Vortex Generators as standard equipment.
The result of the certification effort is the ultimate, most capable two-place airplane for any personal or backcountry adventure. A typical flight profile of two 180 lb pilots, full fuel, and 205 lbs of cargo still leaves 2005 TOP CUB nearly 200 lbs under its certified gross weight. “This is as much load carrying capability as many six-place aircraft”, noted Richmond.
Initially TOP CUB will be offered in three editions: Legend, Ranger and Amphib, with each edition having unique interiors, paint schemes and package options. TOP CUB “Ranger” N43CR is in the newest blue, white and gold paint scheme at 2005 EAA AIRVENTURE.
TOP CUB production positions can be secured with a refundable $7,500 deposit. At start of production of a customer’s aircraft, a non-refundable payment of $25,000 is due, with the balance due at aircraft completion. As of late July 2005, the next available TOP CUB delivery positions were in the fourth quarter of the current year.
