Cousins Recreate “Flight of Passage” in Aeronca Champ
About a month ago we brought you a story of two cousins going cross country in an Aeronca Champ. They have now completed that journey.
The trip recreated an experience they had read in Passage of Flight. Their journey took them through alifornia, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
As you can imagine, not everything went quite as planned including some unfavorable weather conditions during their combined 290 flight hours.
“The clouds were getting lower so we kept having to fly lower,” Dunkerly said. “We were taught from day one how to deal with emergencies. We kept circling around the area to find the private strip and just followed some railroad tracks.”
The trip was inspired by the book Passage of Flight.
