Students Build Airplane

by Mike on November 20th, 2005

Some 88 middle school and high school students built a fabric-covered replica of a Piper Super Cub airplane, which made a successful maiden flight at Buchanan Field Airport in Concord, Calif., this weekend.

The students, who attend Athenian School in Danville, benefitted from the generous contribution by pilot Marsh Freeman of both the money and, along with five other pilot mentors, expertise, to build the airplane.

The students built the plane by meeting for two hours per days, four days a week for two and a half years.
