GlobalFlyer Record Attempt Delayed

by Mr. Flight on January 20th, 2006

Virgin-Globalflyer-N277SfThe world record attempt for the longest flight has been delayed. The GlobalFlyer will not take-off from Kennedy Space Center until at least January 27th. The reason… It is too hot in Florida!

Full fuel makes the GlobalFlyer very heavy…. 80% of the weight of the plane at take-off will be fuel. (18,000 out of 21,800 pounds) Add a heavy plane with hot temperatures and density altitude becomes a factor for the GlobalFlyer too! Despite the schedule change I still hope to watch the take-off.
