Ramp Checks Lifting Off

by Mr. Flight on January 21st, 2006

Faa-Logoin AOPA’s ePilot newsletter this week they reported members calling in with questions about having been “ramp checked” are increasing. They gave some quick guidance on how to deal with the ramp check, mostly “play nice”. However they also said something else I though twas interesting.

The regulations require that your pilot and medical
certificates be readily available and you should be willing to show them.
The inspector can examine your certificates, but he can’t keep them. If
he asks you to “surrender” your certificates, politely decline.

I certainly wouldn’t have known and have turned over the documents on request. Good info to know!

AOPA also has a Ramp Check Special Report available to members.
