LAFT Orders 35 Liberty XL2 Aircraft
An aircraft leasing company, LAFT, has placed an order for 35 Liberty CL2 aircraft. LAFT purchases and leases aircraft to flight schools and flight academies. I’ve always liked the looks of the XL2 with the carbon fiber fuselage, and 132 knot cruise speed while sipping only 5 gallons/hr. The Liberty XL2 also boasts a 48 inch wide cabin. Although only a two seater, there appears to be more room behind the seats than there is in the “four seat” aircraft I normally fly.
“The XL2 meets the demand for a cost effective, technically advanced aircraft ideally suited for a large training environment or the private owner,” commented Louise Fairfax, Managing Partner of LAFT. “We extensively evaluated a wide range of aircraft suited for this role with primary students up to current Boeing 767 captains; Liberty was the clear choice. It beat the competition hands down. The XL2 is an aesthetically attractive aircraft with an advanced modular design providing cost effective airframe maintenance. Coupled with the economic operation, reliability and the state-of-the-art computer monitoring provided by the TCM FADEC power-plant, the aircraft is frankly unbeatable. The Liberty XL2 was an easy choice for us and most of all it is fun to fly. We confidently expect the Liberty XL2 to greatly reduce costs for our customers and operators while simultaneously creating more student and rental demand because of its appealing style and overall superior performance. The day of the ”dinosaur“ aircraft has finally ended and the move out of the ”Jurassic“ age into the 21st century is now possible with the Liberty XL2”.

John, I tried to dig up more information about LAFT for the post but couldn’t find anything other than the limited information in the press release.

John, I still don’t have more information about LAFT, however the planes LAFT has ordered will be leased by Ormond Beach Aviation (KOMN) in Florida.

I saw the new Liberty XL2 today at ormond beach;I personally think it’s a beautiful, streamlined, slippery bird.Even has that ‘new car’aroma.Roomy, easy enter, well quipped.Really couldn’t find any fault, excellent workmanship.Actually reminded me of how i felt many years ago when i saw my first ‘yankees.Hopped in and learned to fly.
