GlobalFlyer Goes for Closed Circuit Record
Word from Kansas is that Steve Fossett is once again getting ready to launch the GlobalFlyer for a new aviation record attempt. The goal is to break the current closed circuit flight record. This record marks the longest flight taking off and landing again at the same airport. The record is currently held by Richard Rutan in the Voyager set in 1986 of 24,931 miles.
Just about one year ago Steve Fossett did fly the GlobalFlyer in a closed circuit in his solo nonstop flight around the world, however his distance of 23,000 miles was not enough to also break the closed-circuit record.
A team from Kansas State’s aviation school will be on hand to assist Steve in his flight covering everything from maintenance to mission control versus his usual Virgin Atlantic staff.
