While VATSIM does have a decent amount of traffic, it does not yet replicate the volume of actual “real world” traffic. So how do you train a VATSIM controller? Virtual fly-ins can help, but when you really need lots of traffic, ACSim Sweatbox is here to help.

The ACSim (short for AirCraft Simulator) is a program that connects to a stand-alone VATSIM server and allows an instructor to set up any number of IFR and/or VFR aircraft, which he can control by typing instructions into the program while he also takes the role of the “voice” of the pilots. The student connects to the same server using the usual VATSIM controller software (e.g. ASRC or VRC) and controls the “simulated simulated aircraft” in scenarios presented by the instructor.
