Solar Impulse Solar Plane

by Mr. Flight on May 11th, 2006

A group called Solar Impulse is making plans to build a solar powered airplane. Their goal is to fly an airplane around the world using only solar power. Initially they plan on making four stops, however as more advanced technologies are developed they think an around the world flight might be feasible.

During the day the plane will gain as much altitude as possible… when night comes the plane will eventually loose power and thus descend while conserving power. Current plans call for a massive 60-80 meter wingspan.
